Bhaona the
traditional form of Assemese drama was introduced by
Mahapurush Shankar Dev around 1449-1568 AD.
It generaly
revolve around Hindu mythological stories with a
message of
winning of
good over evil.The dramas are
called Ankiya Nat,
Ankia means
One act &
Nat means
Drama.
Bhaonas are
played in Namghars (village community prayer hall)
especially after evening hours till early morning.Three
main component are
Gayan (Singers), Bayan (Musicians) and actors.
An actor in lord Shiva attire.
