We as village community do'Hosory'(Its similar to Carole singing) at each house in village on Bohag(Spring). The member of house seek blessing from 'Raaij' (a synonyms used to entire gathering of village community)for prosperity & well being of their household.
Bohag means Spring & our New year. Our ritual is to welcome it by lighting a lamp by our elder and hoisting our cultural icon 'Gamocha' as flag on 1st day of Bohag month (15th April in English)
Here at 'Namghar' means our 'village prayer hall' we gather and discuss our problems and their solution along with further course of action for development of our village.We also discuss any celebration and our social problems.
On the third day of Bohag month (17 April in English), it is the day called 'Guxainbihu' means the day dedicated to God & pray . This day an Asomia household keep fast and pray in community village prayer hall 'Namghar' together, for the well-being & prosperity of the society.
On'dumahi' last day of Asomia 'Sot' month the ladies of the house prepare 'till pitha','narikol pitha'(cake/sweet-meats} from powdered rice (pithaguri)
Today is 15 April in English and 1st Bohag as per 'Asomia calender year' & beginning of our spring festival. This variety of 'Orchid'- Kopouful,blooms just six to seven days before 'Bohag' and is integral part to our culture for celebrating 'Bohag Bihu' or 'Rongaali Bihu'.We present this Orchid to our loved ones specialy to young maiden to be worn on their hair during Bohag.
Today is last day of 'Sot'(14 April in English)& end of Asomia calender year.This day is also called'Dumaahi'which is entirely dedicated to animals, specially used for farming by Asomia farmers and household, irrespective of economic status.
Just 36 hours left for 'Bohag' Asomia New year & month long spring festival. Village youth are getting ready to celebrate spring festival also known as 'Bohag Bihu' or 'Rongali Bihu'
It's Asom's famous 'Bhimkal' a variety of 'banana' used as food by traditional 'Asomia' society. It is rich in proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates and minerals.Botanically it is known as 'Musa Balbisiana'
Bohag Bihu (Spring festival) is approaching and our village craftsman are over burden with orders to make 'Dhol'(Drums) from special type of 'Tree trunk'.
Today 1st of April. So,our village youth are getting ready with drum(Dhol),cymbal (taal), flute, and other local musical instrument to welcome 'Bohag' our new year and for the celebration of month long spring festival which starts from 15th April.
