Assam : Bicycle - Bamboo craft

In my recent visit to largest river island Majuli in Assam, I happened to meet Shri.Pabitra Phukan of an interior village Bihimpurgaon. He is skilled bamboo craft worker and have his own small shop. In the year 2012 he has innovated and made a bicycle from Bamboo. Except, tyre, rim, sproket, crank, paddle and brake cable, rest all parts are made from Bamboo. The bicycle is fully workable and he himself use it.

Had he been supported by Government agencies, a small scale industry on bicycle made from Bamboo could have been flourished at Majuli, giving respite to unemployment situation in Assam.

By looking back the years that passed since I took charge of helping my parents to raise my siblings all those years back from mid 70s through 80s subsequently settling myself by raising my own family in 90s. I now reflect myself somewhat with gratitude today to all well wishers and siblings, when my elder daughter took the podium for successfully completing her Masters in Travel & Tourism Management from Tezpur University, Assam. God bless her with happiness & prosperity.
