Festival Bohag Bihu: Assam


Today its 2nd day of Rongali Bihu or Bohag Bihu festival here in Assam. The people today prays to god in Namghars (Community prayer halls)for betterment of society, humanity & world as a whole. Its not necessary whatever is shown in media wearing of finery Muga or Paat Silk cloth but the people in general wear new cloths ladies as well as girls in villages wear handwoven Mekhela Chadar (Two piece clothing) with Gamocha (Hand loom woven towel)on their neck. In the evening Menfolk, Womenfolk & younger generation go around singing Housori and Bihu song along with Bihu dance with the rhyme to beating of basic instrument Dhol (Drum), Pepa, Taal, Gogona and Flute.
The Orchid we revered most a symbol of love during this festival.
