Dhanteras of Dewali & Ethnic Assamese Society: India
As far as I
remember few years back the
urban ethnic people in
Assam never use to
celebrate or
understood the meaning of
Dhanteras of Diwali festival. With
time passing & many of
mainland migrant of India getting
settled,
local populace
initially started imitating Dhanteras as a
style or
getting themselves adjusting for
identifying through these
as an Indian.
However, if one
happens to
visit the
inner ethnic villages in Assam, during
this festival, you
hardly can find the
pomp & show of
festival Diwali,
except in
few house hold,
that is
also due to
some member might have
resided in Urban area or in
main land India. The
reason of such
distraction may be due to
historical facts of Assam.
