Bamboo rafting team arrives in Guwahati


On 5th of Nov 2015 I have shared a news item reported in the local English daily 'The Assam Tribune', 'Swiftly down the Brahmaputra, Kon-tiki style' the river rafting on raft made by bamboos on the mighty river The Brahmaputra from 'Dho;a to Guwahati for promoting river tourism..so it reached Guwahti. Staff Reporter GUWAHATI, Nov 11 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday received a bamboo rafting expedition team on its arrival in Guwahati after completion of a 630-km expedition from Sadiya to Guwahati. The expedition team started its voyage from Dhola (Sadiya) and after traversing Guijan, Dibrugarh, Disangmukh, Nimatighat, Silghat and Mairabari, reached Guwahati on Monday, said a statement. Receiving the team of 17 members, Gogoi said the completion of the expedition on a mighty river like the Brahmaputra would always be considered as a memorable day in the history of Assam. He said the success of the youths in the expedition implied that their adventurous nature would propel the State to the path of development. Gogoi said that the spontaneous participation of the youths in bamboo rafting indicated their capability to face hurdles in life. He also attributed the growth of the State to the youths’ ability to face hardships. The Chief Minister reiterated the State government’s commitment to promote adventure sports, which also lead to adventure tourism. He said in the last 14 years, his government was able to change the mindset of the people and contributed substantially to maintain unity in diversity by promoting harmony among all sections of the people. The expedition, organised by the Assam Mountaineering Association, gave a lifetime membership to the CM. Addl Chief Secretary VS Bhaskar, Commissioner for Industries Swapnanil Baruah, Kamrup (M) DC Dr M Angamuthu and others were present on the occasion.
