GUWAHATI, Nov 11 - The State Directorate of Sericulture is going to celebrate Muga Day and Muga Mela–cum-Exhibition with a two-day programme beginning tomorrow at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, here.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is expected to be the chief guest at the inaugural function scheduled for 11 am tomorrow, said an official press release here today.
The programme includes distribution of grants-in-aid, a daylong interactive session with progressive farmers coming from across the State, a seminar animated by leading sericulture scientists, and an exhibition-cum- sale of diversified muga products, to be followed by a fashion show by leading fashion designers of the State on November 13 at 6 pm, displaying costumes made entirely of golden muga fabric.
A special highlight of this year’s programme is the institution of “Dr S N Choudhury Memorial Award” to the best performing sericulture official for outstanding contribution to the development of sericulture in the State, the press release said.
